SHN HELP:
Q: What is a .SHN file and how do I use them?
A: Simply put, a .shn file is a compressed audio file. Running a wave file through a program like, mkwACT, you can shorten the file, make it smaller for download and transfer without losing any quality. A .shn file is all the quality of a .wav file, but about 25% smaller.
Q: Why won't you except mp3 trades?
A: MP3 files are just inferior. Upon extracting and re-extracting for purposes of burning, they will lose a lot of quality. The disks circulated might at first sound okay in your car or on your home stereo, but I guarentee, the quality will degrade.
Q: When I download .shn files off an FTP site or receive .shn disks, there are these funny md5 things -- what is that all about?
A: md5's are just a way for you to check to make sure you got an entire file exactly as it appeared originally. An MD5 will alert you to any defects in any files, and will also let you know if all the files have come back in tact.
Q: I have the .shn files, but now what do I do with them?
A: You have two options at this point. You can either download a utility called ShnAMP, which will allow you to listen to the tracks on your PC -- OR -- you can convert them to .wav files and burn them on to cdr. Converting tracks is simple, and can most easily be accomplished by using mkwACT. You can find full directions on usage and download instructions at etree.org.
Q: Where is a good resource for all questions I might have about .shn downloading and conversion?

Q: Where can I go to have simple questions answered?
A: Well, you can always ask me. I don't mind answering questions. You can also go to: Etree FAQs Page. This will detail any questions about any aspect of boot trading you might wonder about. The bottom line is: don't SELL boots, and make copies for as many people as you can. SPREAD THE LOVE! :)
ART HELP:
Q: I am not very artistic. Is there a place I can go to download cd cover art for these cds?
A: YES!! Thank God! Click on the respective artists names to visit art sites:
Q: I am interested in making my own artwork, but how in the world do I get the write dimensions!?
A: Easy. I suggest using MediaFace software produced by NEATO. You will have to register this software at the website to be able to download it, but it is completely free. Another option is the software is usually sold in discount stores like Target or Walmart bundled with labels and inserts. I have also seen it in Best Buy. In all places, it is about $15 - $20. You can download the software for free from the website and buy the custom made labels from one of the above stores named. Sometimes, supplies are extremely cheap bought online. Another option is just to print out the inserts on to plain printer paper. If you are just interested in using the labels for archiving purposes, this is a good and inexpensive choice.
